Dayton Ends Chiefs Streak, Beats Johnstown 3-1

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Bombers beat the Johnstown Chiefs 3-1 tonight to end the Chiefs seven-game winning streak, while Bombers rookie Justin Bowers extended his point streak to eight games.

The Bombers opened scoring in the first as Les Reaney netted a power play goal from Dan Riedel and Dominic D'Amour on the power play. Despite outshooting the Bombers 10-5 in the frame the Chiefs could not get the puck past Bombers goalie Paul Drew.

In the second the Bombers grew their lead to two when Danny LaPointe scored his first goal of the season on a short-handed breakaway from Greg Labenski. Later in the period former Bombers Petr Pohl cut the lead in half when his stole a mishandled puck and poked it past Drew. At the end of two the Bombers lead the Chiefs in shots 17-16.

The Bombers sealed the victory in the closing minute of the game as Justin Bowers took a pass from Jarret Lukin to score an empty netter. Bowers extends his point streak to eight games (tallying 13 points), while Lukin is on a five-game point streak of his own.

Drew won his third consecutive start, stopping 22 of 23 shots, while Johnstown's Kris Mayotte was handed his first loss of the season after going 20 of 22.
