Frederick, MD - Robbie Widlansky's walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning capped off Frederick's late rally as the Keys defeated Winston-Salem 5-4 in the series opener on Thursday night at Harry Grove Stadium. The Dash rode a solid outing from starting pitcher Johnnie Lowe and built a 4-1 lead entering the bottom of the eighth inning before the bullpen folded.

The Keys began their comeback against Winston-Salem reliever Nate Jones when Caleb Joseph hit a solo home run to trim the deficit to two. Billy Rowell singled and Tyler Henson and Bobby Stevens delivered back-to-back triples to knot the score at four.

Frederick finalized the rally in the bottom of the ninth when Dash closer Santo Luis walked Pedro Florimon to start the inning. After Florimon stole second base, Brandon Waring singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. Widlansky followed with the game-ending hit to give the Keys the victory in the opener of the second half of the season.

Luis (2-4) suffered his fifth blown save of the season and took the loss. Frederick closer Luis Lebron (2-2) worked a perfect top of the ninth inning to garner the win.

The Keys broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning when they loaded the bases with no outs against Johnnie Lowe. Wally Crancer struck out, but Matt Angle delivered a run-scoring ground out to give Frederick a 1-0 lead.

Winston-Salem answered immediately with a pair of runs off Pedro Beato in the top of the fifth inning. Catcher Logan Johnson and right fielder Joe Persichina connected on back-to-back singles to start the inning. Second baseman Dale Mollenhauer followed with a two-run double to put the Dash in front 2-1.

Winston-Salem added a run in the top of the sixth inning when designated hitter Seth Loman led off with a double. After Salvador Sanchez advanced the runner with a sacrifice bunt, Loman scored when Beato unleashed a wild pitch. Loman would give the Dash a 4-1 lead as he launched a solo home run off Brian Parker in the top of the eighth inning.

Lowe danced out of trouble early and dominated late as he tossed six innings and held the Keys to one run on five hits, but did not factor in the decision. He also walked three and struck out a season-high nine batters. Lowe stranded seven runners in the first four innings including six in scoring position. He then retired the last seven batters he faced, including five strikeouts.

The Dash and Keys continue their three-game series on Friday night at Harry Grove Stadium. Winston-Salem will send RHP Jacob Rasner (1-0, 3.38) to the mound, while Frederick is expected to turn to RHP Sean Gleason (0-2, 4.82). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Dash returns home on Sunday, June 29 when they open a four-game series against the Potomac Nationals at Wake Forest Baseball Park.
