Winston-Salem Dash News Release

LATE SURGE FALLS SHORT IN LYNCHBURG Winston-Salem scored four runs in the final four innings, but the Dash spoiled a couple of late chances to draw even in what turned out to be a 5-4 loss to the Hillcats on Sunday night in Lynchburg. After scoring two runs in the eighth to pull within a run, the Dash stranded the bases loaded. In the ninth, Micah Johnson led off with a double, but a failed sacrifice bunt attempt and a twin killing lifted Lynchburg to a one-run win. As a result, Winston-Salem fell to 20-31 (.392) in games decided by one or two tallies.

LOW FIVE The Dash have lost five of their last six games dating back to Tuesday's home game against Lynchburg. After avoiding a run of five losses over a six-game span during the 2012 season, Winston-Salem has only been involved in three such slumps this season. In addition to this period, the Dash dropped six of seven from May 4-12 and five of six from July 2-7.

RAVELO'S ROLL Despite the loss, Dash infielder Rangel Ravelo went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored Sunday. Ravelo, who recently collected enough plate appearances to qualify, leads the Carolina League with a .314 batting average, which is six points better than former Potomac outfielder Billy Burns for the top spot. Despite playing in only 77 games, Ravelo is third on the club with 27 multi-hit games. He is also tied for 13th in the Carolina League with 53 RBIs.

CHRIS CROSS Chris Curley became the sixth Winston-Salem hitter to record a hitting streak of 10 or more games thanks to his first-inning single Sunday. During this run, Curley is hitting .350 (14-for-40) with a homer, four RBIs and six runs scored. The Fort Mitchell, Ky., native leads the Carolina League in both home runs (22) and RBIs (83). These numbers are tied for fourth and tied for fifth, respectively, in High-A baseball. He also leads the CL in hits, runs scored and total bases.

BULLPEN SHUFFLE The Dash lost a reliever Monday after gaining a bullpen arm Sunday. Righty Cody Winiarski earned his first career promotion to Double-A Birmingham, the White Sox announced today. Winiarski was the first CL hurler to reach 10 saves, and he leaves Winston-Salem with a 2.91 ERA in a team-leading 36 appearances. His strikeouts-per-nine-innings ratio of 10.8 was fourth-highest among CL relievers. The Dash did receive some reliever reinforcement before Sunday's game with the promotion of J.B. Wendelken, who was part of the Jake Peavy deal. Wendelken went 2-1 with a 3.23 between Greenville and Kannapolis in Low-A.

BLOUGH THROUGH INNINGS Winston righty Bryan Blough logged another seven innings Monday, which pushed his innings total to 144.2 for the season. Blough not only paces the CL by 18 frames, but he leads all of High-A baseball in this category. Over his last 13 starts, Blough has worked six or more innings 10 times. In his 24 starts on the campaign, he has worked at least six frames 15 times.

ATOP MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL Dash infielder Micah Johnson paces all minor league players with 76 stolen bases, while he is tied for the lead with 98 runs scored. In stolen bases, Billy Hamilton of Louisville (Triple-A, Cincinnati) and Travis Jankowski of Lake Elsinore (High-A, San Diego) share second place with 69. Johnson is even with fellow White Sox farmhand Marcus Semien in runs scored. Semien, who played in the Triad in 2012, scored 90 runs in Double-A Birmingham and has eight so far with Triple-A Charlotte.

DASH DOTS The Dash dropped to 6-12 against the Hillcats this season...Winston-Salem is 31-15 (.674) versus the rest of the Northern Division...The Dash lost a game on every team in the Southern Division because Carolina, Myrtle Beach and Salem all won Sunday.
