SALEM, VA - The Winston-Salem Dash maintained their half-game lead over the Salem Red Sox in the Southern Division in an unconventional way on Thursday night, as a power outage at Salem's LewisGale Field forced the cancellation of the game.

With the score tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the stadium lights went out at 9:29 p.m. and were unable to be turned back on. The game was canceled shortly after 10 p.m. and will not be made up, as the clubs do not meet again in the season's first half. As a result, the Dash maintained their half-game advantage over Salem in the Southern Division.

The power outage came in the midst of what was already shaping up to be a long night of baseball, as a 55-minute rain delay had halted play earlier in the contest.

Salem (33-24) took an early 1-0 lead in the home half of the first thanks to an RBI single by Brandon Jacobs to score Jackie Bradley Jr. One inning later, Bradley Jr. increased the Red Sox lead to 2-0 with a run-scoring single that brought home Felix Sanchez.

Winston-Salem (34-24) assumed the lead in the third inning against Salem starter Ryan Pressly. An error on Salem shortstop Xander Bogaerts and a pair of singles by Carlos Sanchez and Dan Black loaded the bases with one out before Pressly plunked Trayce Thompson to force in Winston's first run. Mike Blanke followed with a two-run single to give the Dash a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Salem evened the score at 3-3 after Drew Hedman reached on an error and came around to score on a Sean Coyle RBI single three batters later.

Dash starter Jake Petricka worked three innings, allowing two runs on four hits, while Pressly yielded three runsone earnedon four hits in three frames. Both starting pitchers were lifted from the game following the rain delay.

The Dash return home to BB&T Ballpark for a six-day, seven-game home stand beginning at 5 p.m. Friday. Winston-Salem will kick off the home stand with a doubleheader on Friday evening, as the Dash and the Wilmington Blue Rocks will resume play in the bottom of the first inning of a game that was suspended by rain on April 22. The teams will complete the balance of the nine-inning game, in which Wilmington holds a 3-1 lead, before closing out the night with a seven-inning tilt.

Winston-Salem will send right-hander Steve McCray (1-0, 3.52 ERA) to the mound for the opener before turning to right-hander Matt Heidenreich (4-2, 4.55 ERA) in the nightcap. Wilmington will counter with a pair of right-handers as well, as Greg Billo (5-3, 4.28 ERA) and Leondy Perez (3-2, 3.44 ERA) will start games one and two, respectively.
