Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD - The Keys toppled the Potomac Nationals 6-2 on Thursday night at Harry Grove Stadium in front of 6,172 fans after scoring four unanswered runs to blow open a tie ballgame and send the opposition home in defeat.
After Potomac tied the score at two in the top of the sixth inning, the Keys responded right back, scoring twice in the bottom of the frame to take a two-run lead. Adding insurance runs in the seventh and eighth inning, the Keys won comfortably 6-2.
Jason Gurka (1-1, 2.03 ERA) gets the win in the Keys after entering the game in relief for Kyle Simon. He allowed no hits and just one walk through 2 2/3 innings of work.
The Keys are now 24-34 on the year while Potomac slips to 26-31.
The Keys, who homered three times in the game, would use the long ball to take a 2-0 advantage midway through the game. After Mike Flacco hit a solo shot in the second, Aaron Baker followed suit in the fourth, hitting a solo homerun, which was his ninth of the season.
Potomac would tie the game in the sixth. With two runners on, J.P. Ramirez hit an RBI single to bring home the Nationals' first run. A wild pitch from Gurka would then allow a runner from third to score, which tied the score at two.
Yet that's when the Keys would open it up. In their next turn at the plate, with the bases loaded, Michael Mosby drew a walk to force home the go-ahead run. Then Garabez Rosa came through with an RBI single to give the Keys a 4-2 edge.
After Ty Kelly scored on a throwing error in the seventh, Rosa gave the Keys another run when he hit his second homerun of the year - a towering shot over all three tiers of fencing.
The Keys head down to Lynchburg for the weekend to play five games in three days. Phenom prospect Dylan Bundy (1-1, 2.70 ERA) has the start for the Keys in game one of the doubleheader.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM and live coverage starts at 5:45 on 1450 AM The Source and online at WTHU.org.
