Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (June 26, 2012) - The Dash allowed five unanswered runs and fell 6-5 in 13 innings to Salem Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark.

Salem (2-4, 43-32-1) trailed 5-1 after six innings but tied the game in the ninth before pushing the go-ahead run across in the top of the 13th. Michael Almanzar led off the game-winning inning with a double and scored two batters later when Sean Coyle lined a single into left field to score Almanzar for the 6-5 lead.

Dan Black led off the bottom of the inning with a double down the right field line, but the Dash could not convert its opportunity. With two outs, Miguel Gonzalez crushed a ball deep into left-center field that was caught on the warning track by Shannon Wilkerson.

Winston-Salem (2-4, 46-29-1) got off to another quick start a night after scoring four runs in the first inning. Marcus Semien doubled to lead off the game and came home to score on Carlos Sanchez's league-leading 92nd hit of the season. The Dash loaded the bases for Trayce Thompson, who plated Sanchez on a sacrifice fly to right field for the 2-0 lead.

The Dash extended their lead with a pair of home runs in the middle innings. Michael Earley drew a two-out walk in the fourth before Juan Silverio rocked a ball into the outfield bar for his fourth home run of the year. Mike Blanke added a solo home run in the sixth inning, his first at BB&T Ballpark this season, for the 5-1 lead.

Blanke's home run kept the Dash in front as Salem rallied with three runs in the seventh inning. Christian Vazquez led off with a single and the Red Sox worked the bases loaded. Vazquez came home to score on a misplayed ball to make it a 5-2 game. With the bases loaded, Travis Shaw ripped a two-run single down the third base line, but the tying run was thrown out at the plate as Heiker Meneses tried to score from first.

The Red Sox climbed all the way back from a four-run deficit to tie the game in the ninth. Coyle walked and reached second on a sacrifice bunt to bring Wilkerson to the plate. The center fielder duplicated his third inning at bat, driving in Coyle to tie the game.

The Dash look to even the series in the finale of a four-game set Wednesday when right-hander Justin Collop (6-2, 4.20 ERA) gets the ball. First pitch is set for noon. For more information or to purchase tickets for the homestand, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or log on to wsdash.com.
