Blue Rocks Game Notes

Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

RALLY ROCKS: The three newest Wilmington Blue Rocks played the hero role as Lane Adams, Matt Fields and Orlando Calixte drove in a combined six runs over the final two innings in a 7-3 win over the Potomac Nationals on Monday night. The Rocks did not have a hit entering the eighth, but rallied for their first road win since May 28. The win snapped a seven-game slide overall and a 10-game road skid, one short of the franchise record.

COMEBACK KIDS: Of the Blue Rocks' 30 wins this season, more than half (16) have been in come-from-behind fashion.

SEVENTH HEAVEN: Wilmington won its league-high fifth game of the year when trailing after seven innings. No other team has more than two such triumphs.

GREAT AFTER EIGHT: The Blue Rocks also won for the fifth time when tied after eight innings. Only Potomac matches Wilmington with five such successes. When tied or trailing after eight, the Rocks' seven wins are tied with Potomac and Myrtle Beach for the top mark in the CL this season.

BIG SPLIT: Calixte's ninth-inning home run last night was his first as a Blue Rock and the team's 37th of the year. An amazing 32 (86%) of those dingers have come away from Frawley Stadium.

NO, NO-NO: Wilmington nearly suffered its second nine-inning no-hitter in less than 40 days. On May 19, Nick Tepesch and Jimmy Reyes of Myrtle Beach combined on the feat at Frawley Stadium. Now in its 20th season, the Blue Rocks franchise had not endured a no-hitter on its history until that Saturday night.

EXPLOSIVITY: In the first half, the Blue Rocks scored just 227 runs for a league-low 3.2 runs/game average. Despite playing two seven-inning games and being held to one run on Sunday, Wilmington has scored 24 runs over its first five games of the second stanza for an average of 4.8 runs/game. The team that hit 31 home runs over the 70-game first half, the second-lowest total in the league, has bashed six early in the second. The Blue Crew hit a league-worst .231 in the first half but owns a .268 contact clip so far this half.

NORTHERN EXPOSURE: This series marks the start of divisional foes only for Wilmington over a stretch of 13 straight and 17 of 20. The Rocks are 17-34 against Southern Division squads and 13-11 against their brothers in the North.

NATIONALISM: The Blue Rocks are 5-3 against Potomac. The only other team that has tasted defeat more than triumph against the Blue Crew is Frederick. Wilmington is 5-4 against the Keys. Vance Wilson's club has outhit Potomac .266-.224, outscored it 35-23 and has a 2.97 ERA against the P-Nats compared to a 4.30 mark for Brian Rupp's bunch.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME: Yesterday saw a rare home setback for Potomac hit the ledger. With a 24-15 record at Pftizner Stadium the P-Nats have the best home mark in the Northern Division. Only the squad with the league's best overall record, Winston-Salem, and the Dash's first-half runner up in the South, Salem, have better home marks. Winston-Salem is 25-12 at BB&T Ballpark while Salem has gone 21-13 at Memorial Stadium. Despite falling just short of tying the franchise record for consecutive road losses, the Blue Rocks do not boast the CL's worst away mark. Coincidentally enough, that belongs to Potomac at 10-26.
