Frederick Keys News Release

The Keys bats were kept in check for a second consecutive evening as Winston-Salem limited Frederick to just two hits through eight innings. LF Bobby Stevens hit a solo homer in the ninth but that was not nearly enough as Frederick fell for a season-high six straight time. RHP Justin Collop faced the minimum in his six innings of work for Winston-Salem while the Dash bats blasted three long balls in the 5-1 victory over the Keys.

Winston-Salem was the first to strike on Friday night. SS Tyler Saladino led off the game with a double to right-center of RHP Ryohei Tanaka. A groundout by CF Jared Mitchell moved Saladino to third and then RF Jose Martinez brought home Saladino on a grounder to third.

The Dash added to their lead in the fourth with two homers. With one out and one on, 1B Andy Wilkins crushed a Tanaka offering off the scoreboard in right field for an emphatic two-run shot. C Michael Blanke followed up with a solo homer down the left field line. The back-to-back jacks gave Winston-Salem a four-run advantage.

Justin Collop continued to cruise through the Keys lineup as the night wore on. Collop retired the final 11 batters he faced on the evening. In all, Collop surrendered one hit and walked one over six innings of work.

In the bottom of the ninth, Frederick got on the board following Bobby Stevens' sixth home run of the season. RF Steve Bumbry followed with a single to center but the rally quickly ended after that. 2B Jonathan Schoop popped out to shallow center field for the second of the inning. After making the catch, SS Tyler Saladino quickly turned a fired to first to double up Bumbry and end the game.

Collop picked up the win for the Dash and improved to 2-3 on the year while Tanaka dropped to 5-1 with Frederick.

RHP Kenny Moreland, LHP Chris Petrini, RHP Clay Schrader each tossed scoreless innings of relief in the losing effort on Friday night.

Frederick will try to avoid a three-game sweep at the hands of Dash on Saturday night when they send LHP Nick Haughian (3-4, 4.77) to the hill. Winston-Salem will turn to RHP Ryan Buch (2-3, 4.93) for the series finale. First pitch at Harry Grove Stadium is set for 6:00 p.m.
