Lynchburg, VA- Catcher Christian Bethancourt, the 12th best prospect in the Braves organization according to *Baseball America*, was called up to the Hillcats from Rome earlier this week, and made his debut Thursday against the Wilmington Blue Rocks.

In the eighth inning of Thursday's game, Bethancourt stepped to the plate with Joey Terdoslavich on first base. He doubled to left, and Terdoslavich was able to score on the play. Bethancourt scored later in the inning. He went 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in the game.

Bethancourt, who was signed in 2008 by the Braves, had spent the first half of the season with the Low-A Rome Braves. He hit .303 with four home runs and 33 RBI in 54 games played. He also threw out 20 of a possible 62 runners who tried to steal on him, for a 32% clip. He threw out 39% of potential base-stealers in 2010, when he spent the entire season in Rome.

The first chance for Lynchburg fans to see Bethancourt will come June 29, when the Hillcats return home to start a seven-game homstand against the Frederick Keys and Myrtle Beach Pelicans.
