Winston-Salem Dash News Release
Winston-Salem, NC - Dale Mollenhauer registered three hits, including a home run and two RBI to lead Winston-Salem (16-16) past Lynchburg 4-3 on Wednesday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Dash built an early 4-0 advantage and rode a strong start from Daniel Hudson and a solid effort from three relievers who combined to limit the Hillcats to four hits.
The Dash jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning against Hillcats starting pitcher Justin Wilson. Mollenhauer singled to lead off and scored on a double by shortstop Greg Paiml. Winston-Salem loaded the bases later in the inning and collected an RBI ground out by outfielder Christian Marrero to take a 2-0 lead.
The Dash doubled their advantage in the second inning when Mollenhauer blasted a two-run home run to put Winston-Salem in front 4-0. The Hillcats registered their first hit in the top of the fifth inning, which eventually led to a pair of runs. Kris Watts walked and Jared Keel followed with a single. With two outs, Ray Chang lined a two-run double down the left field line to trim their deficit to 4-2.
Chang added an RBI single off Dash reliever Henry Mabee in the seventh inning to bring the Hillcats within a run. But that would be as close as they would get as Santo Luis retired the final five batters in order to collect his fourth save of the season.
Hudson (1-0), who was making his second Carolina League start, worked five innings and held the Hillcats to two runs on two hits while striking out six to earn the win. Wilson (2-3) surrendered four runs on eight hits in five innings of work to suffer the loss.
These teams will conclude this three-game series on Thursday morning at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Dash will send RHP Anthony Carter (2-3, 6.97) to the mound, while the Hillcats will counter with RHP Ronald Uviedo (1-1, 2.67). The first pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
Single-game tickets are also available for games at Wake Forest Baseball Park through June 17 and can be purchased online at www.wsdash.com or by calling the Dash office at (336) 714-2287.
