WINSTON-SALEM, NC (MAY 9, 2010) - Jon Gilmore drove in two runs and helped propel the Dash to a 4-3 comeback victory over the Salem Red Sox on Sunday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark. With the win, Winston-Salem took the three-game series and moved to within a game of the Red Sox for first place in the Southern Division.

A night after the two teams combined for 33 hits and 29 runs, the bats were more reserved on a cool, sunny afternoon. Salem (21-9) grabbed the first run of the game in the first inning after Peter Hissey singled to start the contest. He stole both second and third before scoring on Anthony Rizzo's grounder to put the Red Sox ahead 1-0.

Salem added another in the second inning off Stephen Sauer (2-1). Alex Hassan reached on an error to lead off the inning and scored on a double by David Mailman as the Red Sox built a 2-0 lead.

The Dash (20-10) halved the deficit in the bottom of the inning on Drew Garcia's RBI single, and then tied it up in the third. With one out, Eduardo Escobar reached on a dropped third strike and a throwing error on Red Sox catcher Tim Federowicz. He stole second and scored Gilmore's first RBI single of the day to even the game at two.

Winston-Salem went ahead in the fifth against Alex Wilson (1-1). Escobar doubled with two outs and Gilmore drove him in with another base hit to give the Dash a 3-2 lead.

Winston picked up an insurance run in the sixth off new Salem pitcher Michael Lee. Ozzie Lewis walked to lead off the inning. The next batter was Jason Bour, who ripped a 2-1 pitch on a line to left and missed a home run by inches. Bour ended up at second with a double and Lewis scored from first to put the Dash ahead 4-2.

The Red Sox threatened the Winston lead in the top of the seventh. New Dash pitcher Santos Rodriguez walked three of the first five men he faced to load the bases with two outs. Rodriguez then walked Drew Hedman to force in a run and cut the lead to 4-3.

Joe McEwing called upon Dan Remenowsky to work out of the jam, and the right-hander from Cincinnati acquiesced. Remenowsky struck out Alex Hassan looking on four pitches to strand the bases loaded and keep Winston-Salem in the lead.

The Dash bats were quiet for the rest of the game, and Remenowsky entered the ninth with his team ahead 4-3. He allowed a leadoff double to Federowicz to start the inning. Mitch Dening pinch ran for Federowicz and moved to third base on Rizzo's grounder to the pitcher. Remenowsky got an important strikeout of Will Middlebrooks and retired Oscar Tejeda on a grounder to second to end the game.

For his 2.1 outstanding innings of shutout relief, Remenowsky collected his third save. He protected the win for Sauer, who had one of his best starts of the season. Sauer went six innings, allowing five hits, two runs (one earned) with one walk and three strikeouts.

The loss went to Wilson, who gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits over five innings.

Gilmore's 2 for 4 day extended his hitting streak to nine games.

However, Brandon Short went 0 for 4 and saw his 26-game hitting streak end. The streak was the longest in professional baseball this season and tied for the fifth longest in Carolina League history. It was only the second game all season that Short did not collect at least one base hit.

The Dash starts a seven-game road trip on Monday when it plays the first of a four-game series with the Potomac Nationals. LHP Justin Edwards (3-2, 2.25) gets the nod against RHP Marcos Frias (1-1, 4.73). First pitch is scheduled for 7:03 p.m. Fans can tune into the live audio broadcast beginning at 6:45 on www.wsdash.com.
