Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Mark Serrano threw seven innings of two-hit baseball and Byron Wiley notched his first RBI with Lynchburg but the Hillcats couldn't hold on, falling 2-1.
This game was the finale of a three game series with Myrtle Beach and the last game in a 10-game homestand.
The Cats got on the board first in the second inning. With two out, Chris McMurray doubled down the left field line. Byron Wiley scorched a one-hopper off the chest of third baseman Samuel Sime and into shallow left field. McMurray scored and Wiley ended up at second base, where he was stranded to end the inning.
Sime left the game in the third inning and gave way to Shayne Moody.
Myrtle Beach scored in the fifth inning after Gerardo Avila led off with a double. He stole third and scored on Moody's RBI groundout.
The Pelicans scored again in the eighth after a two-out triple from Cole Miles drove in Ryan Barba.
Lynchburg loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but McMurray struck out and Wiley flew out to deep center field to end the ballgame.
The pitching was the story of the game as both starters sparkled in their outings. For the Hillcats, Mark Serrano threw a season-high seven innings and only gave up two hits and one earned run. He struck out a season-high nine, one shy of his personal best.
Randall Delgado threw just as well in one fewer inning for the Pelicans. In six innings, Delgado gave up four hits and one earned run. He also struck out nine, a season high. Angelo Paulino threw three scoreless innings in relief, and he picks up the win.
Lynchburg heads to Wilmington for a four-game, weekday road series against the Blue Rocks. It will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams. Lynchburg sends out lefty Matt Fairel (3-0, 3.48) against righty Jairo Cuevas (2-3, 8.06). First pitch is at 6:35, and fans can catch all the action starting with the Hillcats On Deck Show at 6:10 on KD Country 105.5 FM or Lynchburg-Hillcats.com.
