
Darnell's walk-off homer turns back Tides

Durham NC -Darnell McDonald blasted his 13th home run of the year in the bottom of the ninth inning to salvage a win as the Bulls defeated the Norfolk Tides, 7-6 on Wednesday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The win snapped a season-long five-game losing skid for Durham.
The Bulls entered the ninth inning with a 6-5 lead, but a single, two wild pitches by Edwin Jackson and a sacrifice fly fromEdgardo Alfonzo tied the game at 6-6.
A back-and-forth game began with Norfolk taking an early 4-0 lead until Luis Rivas hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the second inning off RHP Jose Lima, his second bomb of the season, to bring the Bulls within one. The Bulls added three more in the fifth inning when Rodney Nye cleared the bases with a three-run double, giving the Bulls a 6-4 lead. Norfolk added a run in the seventh before tying the game in the ninth.
McDonald led five Bulls with multi-hit nights, going 2-5 with the game-ending homer. Rivas finished 3-4 with a run scored and three RBI, and Nye, Delmon Young, and Brent Butler each added two hits. Ruben Gotay led the Tides' offense, going 2-5 with a solo home run in the first inning, his second of the season. Jose Offerman and Jacob Cruz each finished 3-5 with two runs scored, and Edgardo Alfonzo went 2-4 with three RBI.
Edwin Jackson (3-7) picked up the win for the Bulls after recording his first blown save of the season, going one inning while allowing one run off a hit and two wild pitches. Royce Ring (2-2) took the loss for the Tides, going one inning while allowing one run on two hits and a strikeout.
