Darin Mastroianni hits inside-the-park homer in Fisher Cats loss in Portland

(Portland, ME)--- Darin Mastroianni hit an inside-the-park home run, the second in Fisher Cats history, but New Hampshire fell 9-2 to Portland at Hadlock Field on Monday afternoon.

Mastroianni (2-for-3, HR, RBI, R) hit a fly to right field in the top of the seventh off Sea Dogs reliever Tommy Hottovy. When Reid Engel could not make the catch, the ball went by him all the way to the wall, allowing Mastroianni to speed around the bases. It was his first home run since joining the Fisher Cats.

Portland (43-46) plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning against New Hampshire starter Kenny Rodriguez (1-2). Jon Still knocked in one run with a double, Juan Apodaca doubled in two runs and Argeniz Diaz (3-for-4, RBI) doubled in a run to make it 4-0.

Josh Reddick (2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) hit a solo home run off Rodriguez in the bottom of the second to make it 5-0.

The Fisher Cats (41-49) managed just two hits off Portland starter Adam Mills (6-5), who shut out New Hampshire over six innings. Mills walked three and struck out five batters.

Leading 5-1 after the Mastroianni home run, Portland tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Reddick hit his second solo home run of the game off Edgar Estanga to make it 6-1. Ryan Kalish (2-for-4, 2 R) reached on an infield single, Jon Still (3-for-5, 2R, RBI) singled and Lars Anderson (2-for-4, R, RBI) doubled in Kalish to make it 7-1. Juan Apodaca (2-for-4, R, 4 RBI) singled home Still and Anderson to put Portland up 9-1.

New Hampshire added a run in the top of the eighth inning on a double by Todd Donovan and an RBI single by Brad Emaus (2-for-4, RBI).

Following the Eastern League All-Star break, the Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Thursday, July 16, to open a four-game series against the Northern Division-leading Connecticut Defenders at 7:05pm on Jewish Pride Night.
