Altoona Curve News Release
BOWIE, MD - Brandon Pinckney blasted a two run homer in the first inning as the Bowie Baysox (AA-Baltimore Orioles) took their third out of four games from the Altoona Curve in a 3-2 win Monday night at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie.
Pinckney's hit was one of just four allowed by Curve pitching. Starter Kyle Bloom (2-5) tossed 4.0 innings allowing two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts. The Curve bullpen then tossed 4.0 innings and allowed just one hit and an unearned run.
The Curve got within a run twice Monday, the first coming in the fourth inning when Ray Chang led off the inning with a double and was then singled in by Jim Negrych. Chang is now hitting .333 (7x21) and has hit safely in each of his seven games with the Curve this season.
Then in the ninth inning the Curve sent up Pirates No. 1 prospect Pedro Alvarez to pinch hit. Alvarez then proceeded to jack his fourth Double-A home run of the season off of Bowie reliever Ryan Ouellette. Alvarez was coming of a solid performance in the Futures All-Star game where he went 1-for-2 and drove home a run.
The Curve (33-58) have now reached the Eastern League's All-Star Break. SS Brian Friday, 1B/OF Jason Delaney, and LHP Daniel Moskos will represent the Curve in the Eastern League All-Star game Wednesday July 15th at Waterfront Park in Trenton.
The Curve return to action Thursday when they welcome the Harrisburg Senators to Blair County Ballpark for a four game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Thursday with radio coverage starting at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network. RHP Yoslan Herrera (5-0, 4.05) will get the start for the Curve, Harrisburg's starter has yet to be named.
