New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - Rene Tosoni, the Rock Cats' talented 23-year-old Outfielder, did something at Busch Stadium in St. Louis yesterday that some of his better known colleagues in the Minnesota organization - guys named Mauer, Liriano, and his fellow Canadian, Justin Morneau - never did; he won the MVP Award at the XM All-Star Futures Game.

Playing for the 2009 World Team, Rene came to the plate yesterday with 2 Outs in the 7th inning and the score tied, 5-5. He proceeded to lash a ball inside the first base line that rolled to the right-field corner, giving him a double and bringing in the World club's winning run. He soon scored himself when the next batter also doubled to RF. He thus knocked in the Game's winning Run - and scored its final marker - in the World Team's 7-5 triumph over Team USA. For that performance, Rene was awarded the 2009 Game's MVP trophy.

"It's a great thrill", said the 6'0"/195-pound left-handed hitter. "We were told before the game that the series was tied 5-5, so we wanted to win to get on top".

In a starry whirlwind, the British Columbia resident now travels from St. Louis, MO to Trenton, NJ where he will participate in the Eastern League's All-Star Game on Wednesday night. He is one of five Rock Cats selected to play in the historic League's 2009 Mid-Summer Classic. Last year, in Manchester, NH, Cats' INF Luke Hughes was awarded the MVP of that contest.

The Rock Cats continue to distinguish themselves on these national and international stages; Congratulations Rene!
