Monday night at Security Bank Ballpark the RockHounds and San Antonio Missions combined to score 21 runs on 29 hits, commit four errors, walk 11 batters and hit one batsman. All of that (with the exception of a lone single) took place in the first eight innings. And, had it not been for the glove of 'Hounds' right fielder Danny Oh, the madness might have continued deeper into the night.

With the RockHounds clinging to a one-run lead (11-10, after the Missions rallied to cut a six-run deficit to a single run), Yeison Asencio took Ryan Doolittle's first pitch of the top of the ninth inning over the short fence of the right field bullpen. Fortunately, the fence is only about four feet high, giving Oh just enough room to make a tremendous catch, robbing Asencio of the game-tying home run.

With one man on base and two out later in the ninth, Gabriel Quintana came to the plate. The San Antonio third baseman was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a single and three runs batted in as he stepped into the batter's box. Quintana launched a deep drive to the high wall in right, with Oh making a game-ending catch, his momentum taking him against the wall, and denying the tying run for the second time in the inning.

Seventeen of the 18 batters in the game had at least one base hit, with Quintana and catcher Ryan Miller (the number eight and nine hitters) leading the Missions with three hits each and a combined five RBI, and Jose Rondon added three RBI for San Antonio.

Franklin Barreto (see below) paced the RockHounds with Viosergy Rosa (see below) and Jaycob Brugman each collecting two hits and two RBI. The 'Hounds eight and nine hitters, Oh and J.P. Sportman, went a combined 3-for-5 with three walks (on base 6-of-8), three runs and a steal.

The RockHounds

... are 15-9 (8-2 at Security Bank Ballpark and 7-7 on the road) ... have won six of their last seven ... are 4-4 versus San Antonio.

... gained a game on first place Frisco after the RoughRiders fell (at home) to the Corpus Christi Hooks, 8-2. The game snapped a streak of six consecutive one-run decisions in Frisco's eight-game home stand (the Riders won five of the six one-run games). The RockHounds now trail Frisco (17-6) by 2.5 games, with Corpus Christ back to within six games of the Riders (San Antonio stays 8.5 back).

... now host the Corpus Christi Hooks (Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros) Tuesday through Friday. Thursday's game is a Cinco de Mayo celebration with a Thirsty Thursday and postgame fireworks, followed by adult jersey giveaway night Friday. First pitch is 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday and 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.

Kibbles & Bits

STAT OF THE DAY Monday's game lasted three hours and 22 minutes, which is not surprising, given the 21 runs on 29 hits, with 11 walks. It does, however, make last Friday's series opener seem all the more remarkable. In that game the clubs scored five more runs (21) on exactly the same number of hits (29) and total base runners (44) ... and the game lasted nearly a half hour less (2:55) than Monday night's contest (3:22). Explain that one, Abner Doubleday (oops ... make that "Doc" Adams)!

- Franklin Barreto (3-5, HR, two runs, two RBI, two steals) has now reached base in 10 straight games (with hits in nine of them), a streak in which he is hitting .435 (20-for-46). Franklin is now at .281, an improvement of 201 points since April 15, when he was hitting just .080.

- Viosergy Rosa (2-4, double, walk, two RBI) extended his on-base streak to 11 games (12-for-38, .316 average plus 13 walks, for a .490 OBP).
