Daniel Lynch Named International League Pitcher of the Week
May 29, 2023 - International League (IL)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
PAPILLION, NEB. - Minor League Baseball announced the Pitcher and Player of the Week honors for each of the respective Player Development Leagues and Omaha Storm Chasers starting pitcher Daniel Lynch was named the International League Pitcher of the Week for his performance the week of May 22nd through May 28th. While he was on Major League rehab assignment with Omaha, Lynch was eligible because he had not yet pitched in the Major Leagues at the time of his most recent Triple-A outing. Lynch is the first Storm Chasers player to claim a weekly award in 2023, after three were recognized in 2022.
The native of Henrico, Virginia made his fifth start of a rehab assignment, his fourth with Omaha, on Tuesday May 23rd against the St. Paul Saints at CHS Field. He fired 6.0 shutout innings against the Saints on just 61 pitches, holding St. Paul to three hits and no walks, while striking out five. Innings-wise, it was his longest start of the rehab assignment and his second scoreless outing and at the time, Omaha's 7th quality start this season in the Chasers' 44th game of the year.
Following his award-winning outing, Lynch was activated by Kansas City from the Injured List and held the Washington Nationals to two runs on five hits over 5.1 innings, while walking three and striking out six, but earned a no-decision as the Royals walked off the Nationals 3-2.
Selected by the Kansas City Royals 35th overall in the 2019 Draft out of the University of Virginia, Lynch is now in his third Major League season with Kansas City, after debuting in 2021. He's pitched in 18 games (17 starts) over the last three years with Omaha as well, including 18.0 innings with 18 strikeouts over four starts this season.
Outfielder Jake Cave of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Triple-A, Philadelphia Phillies) was the International League's Player of the Week, as he slashed .474/.630/1.211 (9-for-19) with five doubles, three homers and seven runs batted in, with seven walks as well.
