Dakota Bounces Back for 106-98 Win Over Fort Wayne
February 3, 2009 - NBA G League (G League)
Dakota Wizards News Release
Bismarck, N.D. February 3, 2009: On a day when three Dakota Wizards were named to the NBA Development League All-Star game it was another Wizard who stole the show. Dakota forward Will Frisby's 26 points and 11 rebounds were too much for Fort Wayne as the Wizards defeated the Mad Ants 106-98 tonight at the Bismarck Civic Center.
Frisby, who scored 16 points and had 9 rebounds in the first half, was not the only bright spot for the Wizards as his All-Star teammates helped carry Dakota to a 16-12 record on the year. Guard Blake Ahearn regained his shooting touch and poured in 29 points, while Maurice Baker flirted with a triple-double scoring 9 points, grabbing 12 rebounds and dishing 8 assists. The remaining Dakota All-Star, forward Richard Hendrix, struggled in the first half and was held scoreless and only grabbed 3 rebounds, but dominated down low in the second half finishing with 6 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks.
"It was an exciting night and terrific bounce back game for us," said Wizards head coach Duane Ticknor referring to the Wizards 100-98 loss last Saturday to the same Fort Wayne team. "Will played perhaps his best game in a Wizards uniform, and our All-Stars proved why they were chosen. It was a total team effort."
Fort Wayne, now 10-15, was led by forward Ron Howard who scored a team high 27 points and All-Star selection Chris Hunter who recorded a double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds
The Wizards return to the Civic Center to battle rival Sioux Falls on Thursday at 7pm CT, while the Mad Ants actually head to Sioux Falls to battle the Skyforce on Friday at 7pm CT as well.
