
Daigle named American Hockey League Player of the Week

WILKES-BARRE, PA. - Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins forward Alexandre Daigle has been named as the American Hockey League Player of the Week, for the period of Monday, January 12 through Sunday, January 19. Daigle recorded eight points (2+6) and was a plus-three with 19 shots in three games to help the Penguins to a 2-1 record last week.
The first overall pick in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, Daigle assisted on two goals, including the game-winner in the Penguins' 3-2 win at Hershey on Jan. 20. He then collected a goal and two assists in back-to-back home games against Lowell and Cleveland over the weekend (Jan. 17-18).
Daigle, 27, returned to professional hockey after a two-year absence when he signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Oct. 4, 2002. Prior to being assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on December 28, he recorded seven points (4+3) and eight penalty minutes in 30 games with the Penguins.
The, 6'0", 204-pound native of Montreal, Quebec has collected 14 points (3+11) and six penalty minutes in 10 games this season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and 33 points (9+24) in 26 career AHL games, including a stint with Hartford during the 1999-2000 season.
Since joining the Penguins, he has recorded at least a point in seven of 10 games and has four multiple-assist games.
In 489 career NHL games with Pittsburgh, the N.Y. Rangers, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia and Ottawa, Daigle has recorded 104 goals and 144 assists for 248 points.
In recognition of his achievement, Daigle will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Pocono Pirates Amateur Youth Hockey Club in his name.
The Penguins (19-19-2-3, 43 points; fourth-place, South Division) host the Hershey Bears (21-14-8-1, 51 points; second-place, South Division) tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.
Approximately 123 tickets are still available for tomorrow night's game against the Bears. Tickets can be purchased at the First Union Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations and telephone outlets.
