
Farkas traded, Nielsen and Herperger acquired and assigned by the Canucks to the Moose

The Vancouver Canucks announced that they have acquired centreman Chris Nielsen (NEEL-sehn) and centreman Chris Herperger (HUHR-puhr-GEHR) from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for centreman Jeff Farkas. Vancouver assigned Nielsen and Herperger to the Manitoba Moose.
Farkas had played the entire 2002-03 season with the Manitoba Moose. In 39 AHL matches, the 6'1" forward registered 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points with 28 PIM. He was tied for third in Moose scoring and was acquired by the Canucks in exchange for Josh Holden on June 23/02.
Nielsen had split the 2002-03 season with the Syracuse Crunch and Chicago Wolves. In 37 AHL games between the two clubs, the 22 year-old centreman notched four goals and 11 assists with 12 PIM. He had scored three goals and four assists in 18 games with Chicago. The 6'2" forward split the previous two seasons between Syracuse and Columbus (NHL). His NHL totals are 14 points (six goals, eight assists) with eight penalty minutes in 52 games. Nielsen was selected by the New York Islanders in the second round in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft and traded to Columbus as part of the Blue Jackets' first-ever trade in 2000. He was born in Moshi, Tanzania but raised in Goodlands, Manitoba.
Herperger, 28, started the 2002-03 season with the Chicago Wolves before playing with the Atlanta Thrashers until being reassigned to Chicago on Jan. 9/03. With Atlanta this season, the 6'2" forward accumulated four goals and one assist with seven penalty minutes in 27 NHL matches. Herperger had played in seven AHL games with Chicago and recorded two points (one goal, one assist) with 14 PIM. The nine-year veteran has played in 169 NHL games with three different teams (Chicago Blackhawks, Ottawa Senators and Atlanta) while recording 18 goals and 25 assists with 75 PIM.
