Chicago Dogs News Release
GENEVA, ILL. - The Chicago Dogs clinched their second consecutive series win, taking down the Kane County Cougars, 2-0, on Thursday evening. Starter Jake Dahlberg pitched seven shutout innings, recording six strikeouts and no walks, and Josh Altmann's two-run home run in the sixth inning supplied all the offense the Dogs needed.
Three Key Plays:
Altmann homered on 1 -0 count with Nick Heath on third base, good for the shortstop's fourth home run in the six-game season. It was a mammoth shot to left field to put the Dogs on top, 2-0.
With Kane County threatening in the bottom of the ninth inning, runners on first and second and two outs, Dogs reliever Bryan Warzek induced a Galli Cribbs Jr. flyout to center to end the game.
In the sixth inning, Kane County had Pete Kozma at second and Cornelius Randolph at first base with only one out. But Dahlberg teed up back-to-back flyouts to keep it 2-0 Dogs.
The Arms: Dahlberg was masterful, dealing seven shutout innings and walking no batters. He threw 95 pitches and allowed only seven hits. In relief, Aiden McIntyre, Jonathan Cheshire and Bryan Warzek maintained the 2-0 win.
For Kane County, Tyler Beardsley deals seven nearly-flawless innings, posting seven strikeouts. His one black eye came on the Altmann home run.
The Bats: Altmann's home run was the Dogs' highlight, and it came on the heels of a Nick Heath triple, the former big-leaguer's second of the season.
Players of the Game:
Dogs: Jake Dahlberg (7.0 IP, 0 ER, 7 hits, 6 strikeouts, 0 walks)
Cougars: Tyler Beardsley (7.0 IP, 2 ER, 4 hits, 7 strikeouts, 2 walks)
