
D-Fenders Fall Short to Warriors

SANTA CRUZ - The D-Fenders fell to the Santa Cruz Warriors 106-100 tonight in Santa Cruz, CA.
Vander Blue led the D-Fenders (3-1) with 22 points, seven steals, five assists and four rebounds. Anthony Brown scored 20 points (7/15 FGA), followed by Manny Harris (12 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists) and Josh Magette (11 points, 7 assists).
Elliot Williams (31 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists) paced the Warriors (2-1). Darington Hobson (21 points, 7 rebounds) and Juwan State (18 points) also reached double figures for Santa Cruz.
This was a close one throughout, with 10 ties and 20 lead changes. Santa Cruz took a 25-23 lead into the second quarter after a quick start from Williams with nine points, while Brown had six for Los Angeles. Blue turned it on in the second quarter, tallying 15 points, but the Warriors outscored the D-Fenders 29-25 behind 10 points from Staten. Los Angeles trailed 54-48 at the half.
Both teams struggled in the third quarter, with neither team shooting above .400. Santa Cruz outscored Los Angeles 25-24, taking a 79-72 lead into the fourth quarter. The D-Fenders continued to struggle from the field, shooting .364 in the fourth, coming up just short and falling 106-100.
The D-Fenders shot .371 from the field, compared to .541 for the Warriors. Los Angeles was outrebounded 50-40, while Santa Cruz also took the edge in points in the paint (52-34) and fast break points (20-12).
Los Angeles returns home tomorrow to host the Reno Bighorns at 6:30pm PT.
