
D.C. United Waives Midfielder Jose Alegria

CHANTILLY, VA (March 1, 2004) D.C. United announced today that midfielder Jose "Chino" Alegria has been waived. Alegria joined the Black-and-Red in October 2000.
"We would like to thank Jose for his contributions to D.C. United in the past few seasons," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "We wish him the best of luck in the future."
Alegria, 23, played a variety of roles within the midfield in 2003, logging 17 appearances (13 starts) for the Black-and-Red. He tallied one assist on the campaign, finding Mike Petke at the back post in stoppage time against Columbus on Oct. 19. Over the course of his career, Alegria appeared in 38 league matches for United, starting 26. He tallied one goal and three assists in his 2,270 minutes.
A native of Lima, Peru, Alegria was raised in Springfield, Virginia. He played youth soccer for the Washington Diplomats, playing alongside Kenny Arena, son of former D.C. United head coach Bruce Arena. Alegria also trained with Alianza Lima of Peru.
