New York Red Bulls News Release
SECAUCUS, NJ (Monday, March 1, 2004) - The MetroStars announced today that they will play the Colorado Rapids in their final preseason match on Saturday, March 27, at 8:30 p.m. ET in San Antonio, Texas. The game will be promoted and managed by Blue Sport Entertainment.
"This is a great opportunity for our team to get one final tune-up before the MLS season begins," said MetroStars President and General Manager Nick Sakiewicz. "I heard Mayor (of San Antonio) Garza is a huge soccer fan, and I look forward to meeting him. This is a valuable opportunity to introduce Major League Soccer to a new market. San Antonio is a soccer rich environment, and we are very excited to introduce their fans to the MetroStars and Major League Soccer."
The MetroStars had a 2-1-0 record against the Western Conference Rapids last season, and the clubs are slated to square off twice this season (at Giants Stadium on June 30 at 7:30 p.m. ET and at INVESCO Field at Mile High on August 21 at 9:00 p.m. ET).
The MetroStars open the 2004 MLS season on April 3, 2004 against the Columbus Crew at Crew Stadium. The "Red and Black" will return home two weeks later on April 17, when they host D.C. United and 14-year old phenom Freddy Adu at Giants Stadium at 4:00 p.m. ET. Tickets are available for the Metros home opener, and all Metros games by calling 1-888-4METROTIX.
