D.C. United to host Paris Saint-Germain on July 28 at RFK Stadium

Washington, D.C. (June 27, 2012) - D.C. United announced today the club is set to play Paris Saint-Germain in a friendly as part of the 2012 Herbalife World Football Challenge . The Black-and-Red will host the French Ligue 1 club at RFK Stadium on Saturday, July 28, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET. The match will replace the previously announced Juventus match and is included in Season Ticket Holder plans as Special Game 1. Tickets are now on sale via Ticketmaster or by calling the D.C. United front office at 202-587-5000.

"PSG is becoming one of the most exciting and news-making clubs in all of European soccer," said D.C. United President and CEO Kevin Payne. "We are looking forward to hosting them and continuing our long tradition of playing matches against the world's top clubs for the enjoyment of our supporters."

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), founded in August 1970, is a French soccer powerhouse, and one of the top clubs in Europe. The team finished in second-place in the French Ligue 1 this season with a 23-5-10 record, setting a record for a second-place club with 79 points, and thus qualifying for a spot in the 2012-2013 UEFA Champions League group stage. PSG ' s manager, Carlo Ancelotti, was appointed on December 30, 2011, and has previously managed the likes of Chelsea FC, A.C. Milan, and Juventus. PSG is led by the team ' s 23-year-old Argentinean attacking-midfielder, Javier Pastore. Pastore, who was named the 2010 Serie A Young Footballer of the Year, scored 17 goals and tallied 12 assists in his two seasons with Palermo of Serie A before transferring to PSG in 2011. Nicknamed " El Flaco, " Pastore has scored 13 goals in 33 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain.

Joining Pastore on PSG are veteran footballers Nene, Thiago Motta, and Diego Lugano. Nene, a 30-year-old outside-winger from Brazil, has scored 49 goals in 93 appearances for PSG since joining the team on in July of 2010. Thiago Motta controls the midfield for PSG, and has incredible experience over his career playing for FC Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Genoa, and Inter Milan before moving to PSG in 2011. The 29-year-old appeared in all three of Italy ' s group-stage matches at Euro 2012. Diego Lugano anchors the defense for Paris Saint-Germain at the center back position. The six-foot-two defender won the 2011 Copa America with Uruguay and also captained the side in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, in which Uruguay finished fourth.

To avoid ticketing confusion please note the following scenarios:

D.C. United Season Ticket Holders possessing Special Game 1 tickets remain set. There is no need to exchange tickets and refunds against these passes are not available. Season Ticket Holders may also purchase additional priority tickets by calling D.C. United customer service.

Patrons holding paid tickets to D.C. United vs. Juventus, originally scheduled for July 28, do not need to exchange, as those tickets will also provide entry to the PSG match. However, exchange of these tickets for reprinted ones with proper opponent, date and time are available via the outlet of original purchase. Refunds for these tickets are also available at the outlet of original purchase.
