
D.C. United Sign Forward Kimarni Smith

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United have signed forward Kimarni Smith after selecting the Clemson University standout with the fourth overall pick in the First Round of the 2021 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas on Jan. 21. Smith is under contract for one year through the 2021 season with an option for the 2022, 2023, and 2024 seasons.
"Kimarni has proven himself as one of the top offensive players in college soccer and we believe his dynamic qualities will help add to our roster," Dave Kasper, D.C. United General Manager and VP of Soccer Operations, said. "Kimarni possess a unique skillset that combines technical ability with a strong athletic profile, which will be important in our playing style this season."
Smith scored 26 goals and recorded 11 assists in 63 appearances (43 starts) for Clemson from 2017 to 2020. In his final season in NCAA Division I in 2020, Smith scored eight goals and recorded three assists in 11 appearances (10 starts). The forward earned several recognitions in his final season, including two TopDrawerSoccer.com Player of the Week selections, three TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week nominations, and three College Soccer News Player of the Week awards, as well as being named the MVP of the ACC Tournament.
