March 8, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - Real Salt Lake News Release
HERRIMAN, UTAH - Real Salt Lake forward Douglas Martinez has been named to the final 20-man roster for the Honduras U-23 National Team for the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Martinez has been competing with Honduras in several micro camps and most recently scored the lone goal in a 1-1 draw against Costa Rica in the final tune-up before qualification begins.
Honduras will face Canada, El Salvador and Haiti during the Group Stage with the first match on March 19. The winner of each of the two qualifying groups will make the semifinal match. The two teams who reach the championship match will automatically qualify for this summer's Olympic games in Tokyo, Japan.
Once qualification is complete Martinez will return to Utah to begin his third season with Real Salt Lake. During the 2020 season the forward scored two goals in 18 regular season appearances and added another in the MLS Is Back Tournament. In 2019, Martinez led the Real Monarchs to the USL Championship trophy, scoring 16 goals with seven assists in 22 regular season matches before adding one goal in three playoff matches.
Real Salt Lake opened training camp on March 8 and is scheduled to kick off the 2021 MLS regular season on April 17.
