
D.C. United Re-Sign Defender Chris Odoi-Atsem Through 2022

WASHINGTON, DC (January 27, 2021) - D.C. United and defender Chris Odoi-Atsem have agreed to a two-year contract extension, keeping the player at the club through the 2022 season, with an option for the 2023 season.
The Black-and-Red selected Odoi-Atsem with the 12th overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft, from the University of Maryland in 2017. Since joining D.C. United, the Maryland native has appeared in 28 Major League Soccer (MLS) games with 14 starts; scoring one goal.
"Chris has really grown as a player since he joined the club and he had his best season last year, consistently performing well for us at outside back," said Dave Kasper, General Manager and Vice President of Soccer Operations for D.C. United. "His energy and dynamism in both defense and going forward bring a lot to our side and we look forward to the positive impact he will continue to have on our team for years to come."
In 2020, Odoi-Atsem appeared in a career-best 15 games (eight starts); totaling 769 minutes. He scored his first goal for D.C. United on Oct. 18, 2020; a 78th-minute game-winner in the 2-1 win against FC Cincinnati at Nippert Stadium.
