Inter Miami CF News Release
Inter Miami CF announced today that it has signed goalkeeper Dylan Castanheira through the 2021 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, with a Club option for 2022 and an additional option for 2023. The Landing, N.J. native makes the jump to the First Team from the Club's USL League One team, Fort Lauderdale CF.
"Dylan is a promising young goalkeeper who can learn a lot from being in the First Team environment, training with the other goalkeepers and generally preparing as much as possible for his opportunity to earn minutes with the team," said Inter Miami CF Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson.
Castanheira, 25, registered 11 appearances with Fort Lauderdale CF, all of them starts, and ranked fifth in USL League One with 44 saves, including the Save of the Week for weeks 2, 4, and 10. After former starting goalkeeper Luis Robles' injury, Castanheira joined First Team training sessions working alongside Inter Miami's goalkeepers for the final two months of the season.
Inter Miami acquired the College Protected List Rights to Castanheira in a trade with FC Dallas in exchange for a natural fourth-round pick (No. 79 overall) in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 9, 2020.
Castanheira, originally a 2019 SuperDraft selection of FC Dallas, spent the 2019 season playing for Atlanta United 2 in the USL Championship where he made 21 appearances. From 2014 to 2018 Castanheira attended Columbia University, making 44 appearances and earning Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Ivy League honors. He also broke the school record for clean sheets in a career.
