Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON - Houston Dynamo FC signed goalkeeper Kyle Morton for the 2021 season, the Club announced today.
"Kyle has worked hard through the last couple of years to earn this opportunity at the MLS level and we look forward to welcoming him to our Club." said SVP and General Manager Matt Jordan. "He is a player who has the talent and upside to provide strong competition within our goalkeeping corps."
Morton joins Houston after one season with Saint Louis FC, who competes in the USL Championship, and finished as a finalist for the 2020 USL Championship Goalkeeper of the Year, his second appearance as a finalist for the award. The 6-4 goalkeeper finished with three clean sheets, and posted seven victories in 2020, while leading Saint Louis FC to the postseason in an abbreviated season and reached the Eastern Conference semifinals.
"In an effort to expand our depth and competition with our goalkeepers, we wanted to add someone with the right mentality and experience to compete every day," Dynamo head coach Tab Ramos said. "Kyle has been doing the work over the last few years and we feel he is ready to compete."
The goalkeeper joined Saint Louis FC after two seasons with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. He finished with 14 shutouts in 2019, tied for the most in the USL Championship and led the Riverhounds to the Eastern Conference semifinals in his last season with the club. Morton finished with three cleans sheets in the three games he started for Pittsburgh in 2018.
Morton signed his first professional contract with the Rochester Rhinos in 2017 after four years with the James Madison University Dukes. At the collegiate level he finished with 1.13 goals against average and 19 career shutouts at James Madison while earning Third Team All-CAA honors in his junior and senior seasons.
The shot stopper also played with Reading United AC, Lehigh Valley United and the U-23 OKC Energy FC team in the Premier Development League from 2015-2016.
With the addition of Morton, the Dynamo have 27 players on the active roster for the 2021 MLS season.
