D.C. United Promote Stewart Mairs to Technical Director

D.C. United have announced the promotion of Stewart Mairs as the club's new Technical Director. Mairs has served as the Black-and-Red's Director of Soccer Strategy and Analysis since 2016 and focused on recruitment of new talent for United and oversaw advanced scouting and preparation for upcoming matches. He will assist Dave Kasper, D.C. United General Manager and VP of Soccer Operations.

"Stewart has been a valuable resource for the club with his expertise in data, and his tactical understanding of the game," Dave Kasper, D.C. United General Manager and VP of Soccer Operations. "He has elevated our scouting network and provided the coaching staff with information and analytics to help prepare for games. We are looking forward to his elevated role in the area of player procurement and roster construction to both Loudoun United and D.C. United."

In his previous role as Director of Soccer Strategy and Analysis, Mairs interpreted and disseminated all performance data across the club. He played a key role in providing strategical and tactical insight to the first team in addition to the Black-and-Red's USL Championship affiliate, Loudoun United FC. Mairs also helps maintain the D.C. United scouting network to identify prospective players domestically and internationally. He will replace former Technical Director Dane Murphy who left the club to pursue other opportunities.

Before arriving at DC. United, Mairs worked for Prozone, the performance analysis and statistics company based in the UK. He also worked as a consultant and as head of performance analysis for the U.S. Women's National Team. During his time with the USWNT, he provided technical and tactical analysis of player and team strategy, helping the team to the 2015 World Cup championship as well as the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

From 2004 to 2015, Mairs worked at Prozone Sports, and handled everything from providing performance analysis support for national soccer teams, to business development in the Middle East and managing more than 120 clients (including the U.S. Soccer Federation, Canadian Soccer Federation, MLS teams and various universities).

He holds an International Society of Performance Analysis of Sport (ISPAS) Level 6 certification, the second-highest degree available from the society, and graduated from the University of Hull with BSc Honors in Sports Science and Biology.
