Orlando City SC News Release
Deja Vu
Nani once again found himself on the score sheet last week for the Lions, registering his fourth goal in his last three matches played. The Portuguese midfielder has now recorded a goal contribution in four consecutive matches, one shy of matching forward Dom Dwyer's five straight matches in doing so to start the season. Nani currently leads City in both goals and assists this season, with four each thus far in 2019.
History in All Forms
After recording an assist on Saturday's game-winner off the bench, Sacha Kljestan extended the Lions' streak of goal contributions by a substitute to eight consecutive matches, with a sub having contributed to a goal in every match this season. Kljestan's assist also served as his 91st in MLS, tying him with Cobi Jones for 8th in league history. The reigning MLS assist king reached this mark in 57 less matches than Jones (306 to 249). His next assist will surpass Jones for the 8th spot, and put him nine behind former D.C. United midfielder Marco Etcheverry for 7th all time.
Keep 'Em Coming
Defender Ruan registered his first assist for City on Saturday, awarded a secondary assist on Nani's game-winner. This marked his first assist in MLS and the eighth different Lion to record an assist this season. He joins Nani, João Moutinho, Santiago Patiño and Tesho Akindele as one of the five newcomers for City to tally an assist in 2019.
No Rest for the Weary
For the second week in a row, the Lions will face an opponent coming off short rest heading into the match. Vancouver traveled to Orlando following a midweek contest against LAFC last week in which they defeated the 2018 expansion side 1-0. This time around, NYCFC enters Saturday's contest following a visit on Wednesday from the Chicago Fire that resulted in a 1-0 victory for the home side. The Pigeons served as one of ten MLS teams in action on Wednesday night.
The Assist King - NYCFC Edition
Sacha Kljestan leads all players in league history in assists registered against NYCFC. In his 13 games played against the 2015 expansion side throughout his career, Kljestan has recorded 10 assists with the next closest player totaling four in Columbus's Federico Higuain. Of his 10 assists against the Pigeons, four have contributed to game-winners.
Shut Them Out
With a shutout on Saturday against Vancouver, goalkeeper Brian Rowe registered his second clean sheet as a Lion. In 2019, Rowe has recorded 26 saves, tied for third in the league with D.C. United's Bill Hamid and San Jose's Daniel Vega. His 26 saves are just two shy of league-leader Stefan Frei of Seattle.
