D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (October 15, 2013) - Indonesian media entrepreneur and sports investor
Erick Thohir, along with two additional Indonesian business partners, announced today the signing of a binding agreement to become a controlling shareholder of the Italian club Inter Milan (Serie A).
"Through a greater focus on soccer properties and synergy between them, these dealings will result in a deeper commitment from me to the continued growth of D.C. United," Thohir explained. "We will return D.C. United to its place as a top club in America while building a global brand for the most accomplished team in MLS history."
Thohir, along with partner Jason Levien, purchased a majority stake in D.C. United from Will Chang on July 10, 2012. Since that date, Levien has served as the club's managing partner, while Chang remains a general partner in the club.
"I'm happy that Erick has taken the lead in bringing this to fruition," said Levien. "Inter Milan is among the most iconic clubs in the world and, as this moves forward, it presents opportunities that can enhance the futures of both United and Inter."
