D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (January 14, 2010) - D.C. United today selected defender Jordan Graye in the fourth round (55th overall) of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. A Washington DC native and former United Academy player, Graye was United's only selection in the draft.
"We were very pleased to find that Jordan was available in the fourth round and are looking forward to bringing him into the team," said United Head Coach Curt Onalfo. "He's a guy that's played both left back and right back, and he's very athletic. He's a local kid with a lot of strength and ability, and he has a good shot to make our roster."
Graye spent college career at the University of North Carolina. During his senior year in 2009, Graye had his best collegiate season, starting all 22 games the Tar Heels played and tallying two goals and three assists. In 2008 Graye started 23 of 24 games, tallied an assist and helped lead a Tar Heel defense that earned seven shutouts. His sophomore season in 2007 saw him play in 17 games in both the defense and midfield. Though he was redshirted in 2006, his freshman season in 2005 saw him play in four matches and tally an assist.
A Washington, DC native, Graye played for the D.C. United Academy's U-14, U-15, U-16 and U-20 teams. He helped the U-14 squad win the Super Y-League national title in 2001, qualifying for the national champions on three total occasions.
The defender graduated from DeMatha High School, where he was named to the Washington Post All-Met Team and the NSCAA/adidas All-Region III as a senior, and helped lead the team to a WCAC title. Graye has also been with the U.S. National Team at the U-16 and U-17 levels. He spent 2003 at the U.S. U-17 National Team Residency Program and was a member of the U-16 Team in 2002.
