PHILADELPHIA (Thursday, January 14, 2010) - The Colorado Rapids added four new names to the club's roster today during the 2010 MLS SuperDraft held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
The Rapids' first selections came back-to-back in the second round with the 22nd and 23rd overall picks, which the club used on forward Andre Akpan and midfielder Ross LaBauex.
Apkan finished his collegiate career as Harvard's all-time leading scorer with 127 points, scoring 47 goals and adding 33 assists in 72 games. The 2009 Ivy League Player of the Year was also a two-time NSCAA First Team All-American.
LaBauex joins Colorado from the University of Virginia, where he closed out his days as a Cavalier appearing in 72 games, recording 10 goals and nine assists as a NSCAA Third Team All-South Atlantic Region selection.
The Rapids' next selection came in the third round, 40th overall, when the team chose defender Chad Borak from California State University-Northridge. Borak appeared in 74 matches and registered two goals and five assists while earning All-Big West First Team honors his final two seasons with the Matadors.
With their final pick of the day, Colorado selected Chris Cutshaw with the 56th overall selection in the fourth round. Cutshaw ended his career tied for second in Bradley history with 32 career goals and alone in fifth place with 74 career points.
All of the club's SuperDraft selections are expected to report to Colorado later this month for preseason training. The Rapids open their 15th Major League Soccer season in 2010 on the road against Chivas USA on Sunday, March 28 and host the Chicago Fire in their home opener at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday, April 3.
