D.C. United News Release
D.C. United have acquired defender Vytautas Andriuškevi?ius, commonly known as Vytas, from Portland Timbers FC in exchange for $50,000 in Targeted Allocation Money (TAM).
"Vytas is a defender who fits our profile at full back. He has the technical and athletic ability to get forward and join the attack while also possessing the defensive attributes that will add to the group," Dave Kasper, United General Manager & VP of Soccer Operations, said. "We are excited to add Vytas to our backline going into the second half of the season at Audi Field as we push for playoffs."
Vytas, 27, joined Portland from SC Cambuur of the Dutch Eredivisie on July 14, 2016. In three seasons with the Timbers, the defender scored one goal and recorded five assists in 39 MLS appearances (31 starts). In 2018, Vytas has made six total appearances for the Timbers in MLS and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play, scoring a goal for Portland in their U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal loss against Los Angeles FC on July 18.
He has earned 29 caps for the Lithuanian Men's National team after making his international debut as a substitute in the 3-0 win over Armenia on Aug. 10, 2011. In his international career, he has made seven appearances in World Cup Qualifying and has six appearances for Lithuania in UEFA Euro Qualifying.
Prior to arriving to MLS, Vytas made his professional debut at 16-years-old after rising through the youth ranks of Lithuanian club FBK Kaunas where he won the A Lyga title in 2007 and a Lithuanian Cup in 2008. From there he moved to Polish top-flight club Lechia Gda?sk, where he made 32 appearances from 2010 to 2013. After a transfer in 2013, Vytas spent one season with Djurgårdens IF of the Swedish Allsvenskan before moving to SC Cambuur in Holland.
