April 25, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
D.C. United News Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C United have acquired forward Cristian Dájome from Vancouver Whitecaps FC in exchange for $350,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money (GAM) pending receipt of his P-1 Visa. Vancouver will receive an additional $200,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money if certain performance-based incentives are met. The deal was agreed to prior to the close of the Primary Transfer Window on April 24.
"Recruiting a dynamic player with transitional speed who can play anywhere along our frontline was one of our main objectives before the primary window closed," Dave Kasper, D.C. United President of Soccer Operations, said. "Cristian's ability to stretch the field, in combination with our core attacking group will give us multiple options in terms of how we want to play. We are delighted to bring him to the District."
Dájome joins the Black-and-Red after spending the past two seasons with Vancouver Whitecaps FC where he was acquired from Colombian first division side Atlético Nacional. The forward made his Whitecaps debut on Feb. 29, 2020 in a 3-1 loss to Sporting Kansas City. The Colombian's first goal for the club came in a 3-1 win over the Montreal Impact on Sept. 16, 2020 and he would record his first assist the following game in a 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake. During his time in Vancouver, Dájome scored 17 goals and recorded 12 assists across 103 appearances.
Prior to joining Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Dájome played for Atlético Nacional of the Colombian first division. He scored five goals and recorded two assists in 36 appearances for the club, helping them win the '15-'16 Copa Libertadores and the '16-'17 Colombian Categoría Primera A Championship. Dájome spent the 2019 season on loan in the Ecuadorian first division with Independiente del Valle where he scored nine goals and recorded four assists in 39 appearances, helping them win the '18-'19 Copa Sudamericana.
The Colombian is a product of the Bogotá FC Academy in Colombia where he rose through the ranks and signed with the first team in 2013. Dájome made his professional debut on July 2, 2014 in a 1-0 league loss to Millonarios FC. In total, the forward made nine appearances for the club, scoring three goals before joining Atlético Nacional in 2017.
