
D.C. United to Play International Friendly against Club Necaxa of Liga MX on June 7 at Audi Field

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United have announced a friendly match against Club Necaxa of Liga MX on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Audi Field at 7:30 p.m. EST.
"We are excited to have secured a friendly fixture against Liga MX side Club Necaxa at Audi Field in June," said Danita Johnson, President of Business Operations for D.C. United. "The match against Club Necaxa will mark the 11th international friendly that D.C. United have hosted at Audi Field since we opened the stadium in 2018, further establishing our stadium as an international hub for soccer."
Necaxa are one of Mexico's most distinguished clubs, winning three Liga MX Championships including back-to-back titles in the '94-'95 and '95-'96 seasons and most recently in 1998. The club also won the 1999 CONCACAF Champions' Cup after defeating D.C. United in the semifinals and Costa Rican side, Alajuelense, in the final.
Los Rayos' international players include Spanish forward Edgar Méndez, who is the club's top goalscorer this season with five goals, and Mexican defender Alexis Peña who leads the club in minutes played and clearances with 76 this season. Necaxa are led by Argentine Head Coach Andrés Lillini who started at the club in November 2022 after previously spending two years as the Head Coach for Liga MX side UNAM Pumas.
