CHANTILLY, VA (March 2, 2004) - D.C. United announced today that the team has acquired the rights to forward Jaime Moreno from the MetroStars in exchange for future considerations. Additional considerations will apply if Moreno is added to D.C. United's final 2004 roster.

"We are pleased to have obtained the rights for Jaime," said D.C. United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "He has been an integral part of D.C. United's success and we are excited to give Jaime the opportunity to once again be a part of our club."

Moreno, 30, left the Black-and-Red as part of a 2002 trade that brought Mike Petke and Earnie Stewart to United. He tallied one goal and two assists in 11 appearances for the MetroStars in 2003. Moreno, with 71 career goals and 52 assists, tops the all-time scoring list for United with 194 points. The Bolivian international was allocated to United on July 29, 1996, joining the team from English Premier League side Middlesbrough. Moreno was named to the MLS Best XI in 1997 and 1999, and earned the Golden Boot in 1997.

The Santa Cruz, Bolivia native most recently appeared for the Bolivian National Team in four matches during qualifying for the 2002 World Cup. Moreno became the first and only Bolivian to play in the English Premiership in 1994, when he joined Middlesbrough from Bolivian side Blooming, amassing nine career goals in first-team appearances.
