Saginaw Spirit News Release

The Saginaw Spirit hockey club have acquired forward Vaclav Meidl from the Plymouth Whalers for forward Joe McCann and a 3rd round draft pick in the 2007 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. Meidl is a 19 year old, 6'5", 215 pound native of Havirov, the Czech Republic. He is a 2004 draft pick of the Nashville Predators, and was recently a teammate of Spirit forward Michal Birner on the Czech World Junior squad.

"Vaclav is a player I've followed since I was a scout with the Edmonton Oliers," said Spirit head coach and general manager Bob Mancini."We expect him to join us as soon as possible. This was a very difficult decision for us to make. I have tremendous respect for Joe McCann as a player and a person and I wish him the best of luck. "

Meidl has 6 goals and 11 assists in 30 games with the Whalers this season.
