WEEKEND RECAP: The Barrie Colts posted a 2-1 record over the weekend to improve to 25-13-1-2 with 53 points..They currently hold a six point lead over the Brampton Battalion for first place in the Central Division standings through 41 games...The club has posted a 12-6-0-2 record at home and 13-7-1-0 record on the road, tied for eighth and third respectively among the league..The Colts' point total places them third in the OHL, behind London at 56 and Peterborough at 59.. January 5 vs. PLYMOUTH: The Barrie Colts opened up their weekend in fine fashion thanks to a 5-1 victory in a penalty filled affair against the Plymouth Whalers Thursday evening at the Barrie Molson Centre....The Colts capitalized on Plymouth penalties and scored four straight powerplay goals to open up a 4-0 lead through two periods...Ryan Hamilton, with a pair (20,21), Vladimir Nikiforov (10), Travis Fuller (10) and Andrew Marshall (20) each scored goals for the Colts....Dan LaCosta made 20 saves in goal to improve his overall record to 19-8-1-2 on the season....Rookie Kris Sparre, Andrew Marshall and Bryan Little each added two assists, and Todd Perry, Ryan Hamilton and Vladimir Nikiforov chipped in with singles for the home side, who improved their Molson Centre record to 12-5-0-2 on the season....Marshall's first period goal was a significant one for the 19-year old defender...He set a new single season club record for most goals by a defenseman....With his 20th, he moves past Joel Dezainde who registered 19 during the 1998-99 season....After the game was 4-0, liberties were taken and a total 183 minutes in penalties were assessed, including 108 during the third period alone .January 6 @ MISSISSAUGA: The Barrie Colts flexed their offensive muscles again as they completed their second straight victory, a 7-4 decision Friday night against the Mississauga Ice Dogs at the Hershey Centre.... Seven different skaters hit the scoresheet during Friday's victory in Mississauga, a win that snapped a two game road losing skid and improved their overall road record to 13-7-1-0 on the season....Alexander Eaton (2), Travis Fuller (11), Bryan Little (28), Mike Roelofsen (6), Ryan Hamilton (22), Nathan Martine (2) and Billy Burke (1) scored for the Colts, and Andrew Perugini backstopped the club with 38 saves for the victory to improve his overall record to 6-4-0-0 on the season....Hunter Tremblay added three assists, and Billy Burke added a pair, while Alexander Eaton, Nick Plastino, Andrew Marshall, Bryan Little, Chris Morrison, and Mike Roelofsen added single assists..January 7 vs. PETERBOROUGH: Going for their third consecutive victory, the Colts came up on the short end of a 6-2 decision in their first regular season meeting against the Peterborough Petes..Down 1-0 and 2-1, the Colts fought back to tie things each time before the Petes went up for good 3-2 and went on to victory.Bryan Little (29) and Vladimir Nikiforov (11) each scored goals, and Dan LaCosta made 32 saves while he suffered the loss.A capacity crowd of 4,281 watched World Junior gold medalist Steve Downie score two goals for the Petes, who improved their league leading record to 29-8-1-0 on the season..The Colts went 1-for-8 on the powerplay and the penalty killing units went 11-for-13
WHAT'S ON TAP: The Colts will have a chance to redeem themselves this Thursday when they travel to Peterborough to face the Petes (29-8-1-0) at the Memorial Centre (7:00 p.m.)..For the Petes, it will be their second game in as many nights as they travel to Belleville on Wednesday..The Colts will be looking for a victory in one of the most difficult rinks to play in this season, as the Petes have lost just two of 18 home games this season (16-2-0-0, .889%)...The club will swing back home Saturday (7:30 p.m.) for another tough opponent in the London Knights.The Knights currently own the league's second best record at 27-9-0-2 with 56 points, and they hold a 1-0 edge in the season series thanks to a 5-2 decision over the Colts on October 7 at the John Labatt Centre..The Colts Sunday will conclude their weekend with a trip to the Powerade Centre to face the Brampton Battalion (2:00 p.m.), who currently trail the Colts by six points for first place in the Central Division..The Colts have fared will against the Battalion this season with a 3-0-0-1 record including a 5-4 victory in Brampton on November 27

PETRUZALEK JOINS THE COLTS: The Colts today announced they have acquired overage forward Jakub Petruzalek...He arrived in Barrie late afternoon Tuesday and will make his first appearance with the club when they travel to Peterborough on Thursday..He leaves the HC Litvinov Chemopetrol team of the Czech Elite League to join the Colts after they acquired him from the Ottawa 67's on June 29, 2005 in exchange for their first round pick in the 2005 CHL Import Draft..He registered 63 points (20g-43a) in 59 games with Ottawa last season
INJURY & ROSTER UPDATES: The Colts do not have any injuries to report, and will welcome back forwards Matthew Bragg and Matthieu Methot from their two game suspensions...With the additions of overage players Dave Pszenyczny and Jakub Petruzalek, defenseman Michael Root was placed on waivers and claimed by the Windsor Spitfires on Tuesday, and forward Alexander Eaton will join the Milton IceHawks of the Provincial Junior A League

OPEN THE BOOKS: 19-year old defenseman Andrew Marshall etched his name in the franchise record books Thursday evening as he scored his 20th goal of the season, setting a new franchise record for goals by a defenseman in a single season..He surpassed Joel Dezainde who recorded 19 during the 1998-99 season..Marshall currently leads all OHL defensemen in goals and is tied for first with Patrick McNeill (SAG) in points at 47
