SAN DIEGO, California – Cory Cyrenne had a hat trick to go along with an assist as San Diego grabbed a 4-0 first period lead and never looked back, coasting to an 8-3 victory over Anchorage before 5, 127 Friday night at the San Diego Sports Arena.

San Diego broke open a scoreless game midway through the first period with four goals in a span of 3:25, starting with Mike Garrow's one-timer at 9:26. Cory Cyrenne tucked home his own rebound 66 seconds later, and Mark Pederson fired a Trevor Sherban rebound past beleaguered goaltender Ryan Person to give San Diego a 3-0 bulge. After Dennis Purdie scored on a wraparound to make it 4-0, Dave Csumrik finally put the Aces on the board with a blast from the point at 15:16, assisted by Kimbi Daniels and B.J. Young. Samy Nasreddine's backhander with 45.9 seconds left in the period pushed the margin back to four goals in favor of the Gulls heading into first intermission.

San Diego pushed its lead to 6-1 on a goal by Sylvain Deschatalets at 8:25 of the middle frame, but Anchorage threatened to make a charge as Dean Larson (the 20th of the year for the leading scorer in the WCHL) and Kevin McNeill scored goals two minutes apart to whittle the deficit to three. The Gulls were able to respond, as Cyrenne scored his second of the night to increase the margin to 7-3 with 3:30 remaining in the period. Cyrenne completed his hat trick with 7:20 left in the game, accounting for the final margin. Deschatalets finished with a goal and five assists while R.J. Enga contributed four helpers as San Diego won for the 15th time in 17 games. Anchorage (10-27-2) has surrendered 43 goals in its last seven contests and is just 1-10-1 over its last dozen games.

The Aces have lost six consecutive games heading into tomorrow night's rematch with San Diego (23-12-1) at 6:00 p.m. AST. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com or www.kfqd.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
