Bakersfield Condors News Release

Long Beach, Calif. - Paul Willett scored twice and added an assist as the Condors won their third straight game, 5-1 over the Long Beach Ice Dogs on Friday night in front of 2,319 fans at the Long Beach Arena.

The first period saw just two goals scored, both within a minute of each other. Paul Willett knocked in his 13th of the season at 11:58 for the 1-0 lead. J.J. Wrobel broke into the zone with a burst of speed and took two defenders with him to create the opportunity. He picked up his first point as a Condor with an assist on the goal. A collision between two Condors in the Long Beach zone left a wide-open sheet of ice for Zdenek Vanc, who broke in alone and scored to tie the game.

Bakersfield took over in the second period, tallying twice on the special teams to take a 3-1 lead into the dressing room after 40 minutes. Jon Sorg redirected a wrist shot by Shawn Byram for the 2-1 advantage on the power play. Less than four minutes later, while shorthanded, Christian Skoryna finished off a nice passing play between Willett and Jamie Cooke to bury his 11th of the season. The Condors were outshot 14-6 in the second frame, thanks largely in part to five Long Beach power plays.

Bakersfield tallied twice more in the third period to extend the lead. Willett netted his second of the game, and third point of the night at 12:41. A few minutes later, Jeff Goldie tallied on the power play for the final score of the game. Kevin St. Pierre stopped 34 shots for the second straight game, and collected his 18th victory.

The Condors are back at it in Long Beach on Saturday night. Slated for a 7:00pm start, it is the featured season ticket holder game. All Condors full-season ticket holders received a voucher for free admission to this game at the Long Beach arena in their ticket books. Vouchers must be redeemed in person at the Long Beach Arena box office at 300 E. Ocean Blvd. in Long Beach. For more information, or directions, call (562) 436-3636.

The team returns home to host the Idaho Steelheads on Sunday at 5:00pm. That game is another Jersey Off Our Backs Raffle and Auction, for the team's Metal Blade warm up jerseys. Everyone in attendance will have a chance to win one of five to be raffled off, and the others will be auctioned at center ice after the game to raise money for the American Bone Marrow Donor Registry. The Spanish Radio Group sponsors the event.
