Cyclones Sign Defenseman Kyle Bushee
March 13, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators, announced this afternoon that they have signed defenseman Kyle Bushee to a contract.
Bushee, 22, just completed his senior season with Canisius College, where he was a two-year letterman for the Golden Griffins. Kyle scored six goals and added twelve assists for 18 points and 48 penalty minutes in 36 games with Canisius this season. Prior to attending Canisius, he played two campaigns (2003-04 and 2004-05) at Western Michigan University. During his collegiate career, Bushee appeared in 128 games, netting nine goals and 30 assists for 39 points.
During the 2005-06 season, Bushee played with Des Moines (USHL) and was part of a squad that captured the Clark Cup. He appeared in 52 games and collected five goals and ten assists for 15 points and served as assistant captain of the squad. That Buccaneers squad featured seven NHL Entry Draft picks that summer, including a pair of first round and second round selections.
Bushee was a teammate of current Cyclones forward Billy Irish-Baker last season. The six-foot, 180 pounder, hails from Otsego, Michigan and holds a degree in physical education from Canisius. He is expected to be in Cincinnati tonight and may dress for the contest against Trenton.
"Kyle Bushee is going to have an opportunity to step in and contribute," Chuck Weber, Head Coach of the Cyclones said. "Any time there is a player out there that you think might be able to help your team, you need to explore that possibility. Billy Irish-Baker is a player that had the same opportunity last season and it has paid dividends this year."
The Cincinnati Cyclones, who have won a club-record 46 games, host Trenton tonight and return to U.S. Bank Arena on Monday night (March 17) versus Johnstown at 7:30pm.. The latest news on the team and the webcast of the game can be heard at: www.cycloneshockey.com.
