Cyclones Score In Third To Beat Dayton 5-4

Dayton, OH- The Dayton Bombers lost a tough battle against in-state rival Cincinnati Cyclones by a final score of 5-4 Sunday afternoon at the Nutter Center.

The game, originally scheduled for October 28 but postponed due to a malfunction with the Zamboni ice resurfacer, was the third game in as many nights and featured a combined nine goals during regulation. Cincinnati would break the scoring seal in the first period at the 10:32 mark, but Dayton's Mike Walsh (pictured) would score his fourth goal of the season to answer at 17:27; Mike Berry and Chris Eade would pick up the helpers. Tied with time winding down in the first, Chanse Fitzpatrick would score the go-ahead goal, his league-leading twelfth of the season, on the power play with just :03 left in the period. Cincinnati would lead Dayton in shots on goal after one period 11-6.

A combined five goals would be scored in the second period (2 for Dayton and 3 for Cincinnati), with Dayton's Matt Beaudoin scoring his sixth goal of the season at 8:28 to put Dayton ahead by two. Cincinnati would answer with a pair of goals, first at 11:08, and again at 12:24 to tie the game with three apiece. It would take a laser slap shot by Bombers captain Greg Labenski, his first of the season, to pull Dayton ahead once again 4-3. Dayton would give up a goal to Cincinnati off of an errant clearing pass with just :26 to go in the second period, to go into the dressing rooms after forty minutes tied 4-4. Cincinnati once again led the Bombers in shots 15-9 in the second period.

Cincinnati would break the tie in the third period on the power play at the 9:22 mark, and would hold on for the 5-4 win. The Cyclones would outshoot Dayton 8-5 in the third, and 34-20 after sixty minutes, with Jeremy Duchesne receiving the loss in net for Dayton, and Dov Grumet-Morris picking up the win for Cincinnati.

With the loss, the Bombers drop to a record of 5-5-2-1, and travel to WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, WV to battle the Nailers, who escaped from Dayton Saturday night with a tough 3-2 win. The Bombers return home to the Nutter Center on Tuesday, November 27 to host the Elmira Jackals for the first time in franchise history.
