Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that defenseman Jon Awe was called up to the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League on Saturday. In a separate transaction, Gladiators have signed forward Bryan Dobek. The 5-foot 10-inch Dobek played 35 games in Gwinnett last season posting six points on 3 goals and 3 assists.

Awe notched 7 points on the season with 2 goals and 5 assists in 11 games with the Gladiators to rank second on the team in scoring by a defenseman. This will mark Awe's fifth stint in the AHL after spending parts of the 2005-06 season with both the Portland Pirates and Providence Bruins as well as splitting time last season between the Chicago Wolves and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last season.

In 60 games with the Gladiators in 2006-07 Awe set an ECHL record among defensemen with 19 power play goals, leading the Gladiators to a league record in that category with 120 power play goals on the year.

The 24-year-old Dobek joined the Fayetteville Fireantz of the Southern Professional Hockey League for 20 regular season games and 6 playoff games. He notched 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points in the regular season for the Fireantz. Dobek, a native of Escondido, CA, then contributed 12 points on 5 goals and 7 assists in 6 playoff games as Fayettville won the President's Cup.

Dobek should be available for the Gladiators for Tuesday's 7:05 p.m. tilt against the Elmira Jackals at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

The Gladiators continue their fifth anniversary season on Tuesday, November 20th as they host the Elmira Jackals at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:05 p.m. Catch all the play-by-play action in Tuesday's game via Accessnorthga.com audio stream channel 3.
