Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
FISHKILL, NY - August 5, 2016 - It was a quiet night for Brooklyn offensively as the Renegades avoided the three-game sweep with a 4-2 victory over the Cyclones Friday night at Dutchess Stadium.
The game went scoreless through the first three frames as first round pick, Justin Dunn (1-1, 0.60 ERA), shined in his third start of the season. The righthanded pitcher silenced the Renegades offense allowing just two base runners in his three innings pitched.
Adam Atkins stepped onto the mound in relief of Dunn in the fourth inning and he immediately worked himself and the Cyclones into trouble. Atkins walked two consecutive batters before giving up a single that allowed the Renegades first score of the night . He was quickly pulled for LHP Gabriel Feliz after letting four consecutive batters reach base safely. Feliz closed out the inning, but allowed the Renegades to further their lead to 4-0 after giving up three extra-base hits in the fifth.
The Cyclones got on the board in top of the eighth when Brandon Brosher knocked a sharp line drive to left field that moved Gene Cone to third base. Cone later scored on a RBI-ground out by Ali Sanchez.
Brooklyn cut the deficit to 4-2 in the ninth after Jacob Zanon opened up the ninth with a double to left field. He advanced to third on a wild pitch by Jose Alonzo before being knocked in on a RBI-ground out by Michael Paez.
RHP Dillion Becker and RHP Alejandro Castro combined for 3.0 innings pitched allowing just two hits and one walk whilst striking out three.
The Cyclones will look to rebound as they face Tri-City Valley Cats on Saturday night at 7:00 PM when they send LHP Thomas Szapucki (1-1) to the mound. Brooklyn will return to MCU Park Tuesday as the open a three-game series against the Vermont LakeMonsters.
