Wheeling Nailers News Release
Cincinnati, OH - The Wheeling Nailers fell to the Cincinnati Cyclones 3-1 on Tuesday night ending the Nailers three game winning streak. The Nailers are now 6-4-1 while the Cyclones improve to 10-3-1, the best start in their history.
Goaltending was the story the entire game as both goalies played extremely well. David Brown stopped 40 shots for the Nailers only to be overshadowed by Cedrick Desjardins stopping 25 of 26 to earn the number two star of the game.
The only goal in the first period was scored by Chris Snavely at 11:43. It was the first goal in the professional career of the rookie from Michigan State University. Todd Spencer's wrist shot from the point caught Desjardins in the shoulder leaving a rebound and an open goal for Snavely.
Despite being outshot 13-11 in the first period, the Nailers retained their 1-0 lead at intermission.
The second period belonged to the Cyclones. David Desharnais banged home the loose puck 6:22 in on an assist from Chad Starling. Starling's shot from the point was blocked by a Nailers defender but the puck wound up on the stick of Desharnais for the goal. It was his seventh of the season.
Jean-Michel Daoust scored a goal for the seventh consecutive game at 8:35 of the period. Greg Gallagher and Conrad Martin were credited with assists as Daoust tucked it between the post and the right pad of Brown.
Scott Reynolds iced the game with an empty netter at 19:35 of the third.
Wheeling was outshot in every period including 15-7 in the third and has been held to a combined one goal through their first two meetings with the Cyclones. Their next meeting will be December 15 back in Cincinnati.
The Nailers return to the ice on Wednesday in Wheeling to take on the Dayton Bombers at 7:05p.m. Wheeling has taken their first two games of the season against the Bombers including their 3-2 win in overtime on Saturday.
