Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Brooklyn, NY -- The Cyclones lived up to their name on Thursday night, playing a roller coaster of a game that ended with an 11-6 Brooklyn loss in extra innings. The Hudson Valley Renegades batted around in the top of the eleventh, scoring five runs on five hits, but they were also aided by two critical Brooklyn errors that allowed for the inning to carry on.
After trading zeros over the first three innings, the Renegades broke through in the fourth scoring twice to take the early 2-0 advantage. In the bottom of the inning the Cyclones cut the deficit in half with one swing of the bat. Jonel Pacheco smashed his first home run of the season over the left field wall to make the score 2-1. The Renegades pushed their lead to 3-1 in the top of the fifth, but in the bottom of the frame the Cyclones bounced right back. Yury Santana and Joe Holden started the rally with back-to-back singles that put runners on the corners with one out. With Ivan Naccarata batting, a passed ball allowed Santana to score from third and cut the deficit to 3-2. Two pitches later Naccarata would plate Holden with a two-run blast to right field that gave the Cyclones their first lead of the game at 4-3.
In the top of the seventh, the Renegades pulled even after a two-out single plated a run and knotted the score at 4-4, and in the eighth they took the lead for good on a two run blast off the bat of Neil Walton. In the bottom of the ninth, the Cyclones would rally. Jonel Pacheco was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and came all the way around to score on a Drew Butera triple to cut the score to 6-5. Brooklyn wasn't done there though, because Yury Santana perfectly executed a squeeze play to drive home pinch-runner Kyle Brown with the tying run and send the game into extra-frames. In the eleventh, the Renegades took the lead for good, taking advantage of two Cyclones errors and scoring five times to make the final score 11-6.
Jeff Landing made the start for the Cyclones and received a no-decision despite another solid outing. Over five innings, Landing allowed three runs on six hits while striking out 10 and walking two. Kyle Risinger (1-2) suffered the loss for Brooklyn, after allowing six runs, only one of which was earned, on seven hits over four innings of relief.
